The true leader serves. Serves people. Serves their best interests, and in so doing will not always be popular, may not always impress. But because true leaders are motivated by loving concern rather than a desire for personal glory, they are willing to pay the price.

The Other Side of Leadership
Each summer the Foley LITs and CITs find a way to help their community. Service strengthens young peoples' sense of civic engagement, and develops a connection to the community. Take a look at the projects we did in 2008!
Past Projects!
Camp Knutson
CAMP IS FOR EVERYONE! We visited Camp Knutson, a special needs camp about 15 minutes away from Foley. We worked with populations of kids and young adults with Down Syndrome, Autism, and Heart Disease. Each of our visits were a little different, but we were given a tour of the facilities and worked with Knutson staff to assist with the evening program. These visits allowed the LITs and CITs to realize that the camp environment is for everyone.
Habitat for Humanity
WE CAN HELP! 10 of our 4th session CITs and LIT 2s traveled to Brainerd, MN to work with Habitat for Humanity. We received an overview of the habitat organization in the Brainerd Lakes Area, and the need for affordable housing. We spent most of the day staining molding to go into a house the following week. We also were able to visit a house that a home owner was in the process of moving into.
Grandpa's Run for the Walleye
ANYONE CAN RUN! The past two summers Foley campers have participated in Grandpa's Run for the Walleye. This 5k run benefits walleye research and conservation of Walleye in Minnesota. Last summer we had 14 kids run in the race. The campers participated in the Running Clinic at Foley for training and then ran the race in Crosslake, MN.
In addition to Grandpa's Walleye Run last summer, we also ran a 5k run in Crosby, MN to help raise money for the Crosby HS Cross Country Team. Due to budget cuts, the program was going to be eliminated so the benefit helped to make sure that the Crosby team could compete this past fall. The event was a success and their season was saved!
2009 Projects!
We are still finalizing our projects for this summer, but we look forward to continuing some of the work we have started as well as starting some new projects!
Habitat for Humanity
Once again we will be working with the Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity, hopefully adding a few more days to our schedule. This program will be for those campers that are part of the LIT or CIT program and going in to 10th or 11th grade. Our hope is to offer this once per 2 week session.
Grandpa's Run for the Walleye
This summer the Walleye Run will be held on July 4th! We plan to send another van full of kids to participate! If you are interested please email us for more information. This event is open to anyone 13 years of age and older.
