Here are some of the highlights from last summer's leadership program.
Fox and Coyote Special Events
1st Session (CITs and LIT 3s) - The fox boys had a pirate night filled with talking like pirates ('Aaarggh'), making eye patches, a counselor kidnapping and a “walking of the plank.” The fox girls had a night filled with parachute games! The girls played Cat Mouse, Popcorn, and ending the night by running under the parachute to answer questions. The coyote boys enjoyed a casino night. Cabins Kadigomeg and Shingwako were transformed in a casino complete with black jack, poker, and even a few games of Simon Says, which were a huge success. The coyote girls had a two part evening for their “Dancing in the Rain” night. It started out with a race around camp. A scavenger hunt complete with clues around camp leading the girls to volleyball court. Once they made it to their destination they enjoyed making sand castles on the volleyball court.
2nd Session (LIT 1 and 2) - The fox girls included a kidnapping where the girls were brought to Tekawitha to paint nails, braid hair, and learn how to make different friendship bracelets. The coyote girls got a surprise when the LITs “invaded the treehouses” with a dress up box in toe. The girls were able to dress each other up, put on a photo shoot, a fashion show, and even hosted a dance party! The coyote boys put together a new game influenced by dodge ball. The boys had an intense battle with a star wars theme.
3rd Session (LIT 1s) - For 3rd session the fox and coyote the groups were broken down into smaller groups with events occurring with just individual cabins. Up on the girl’s end of camp events included a spa night, a scavenger hunt with the final destination being their cabin to pop popcorn, a nature hunt complete with nature trivia and a trip to crafts to make their very own pet rock followed by a game of dog catcher. The boys filled the night with a hockey challenge, a twisted version of dodge ball, an obstacle course and capture the flag, a scavenger hunt around camp with different tasks at each stop, and alien themed night games including kick the space ship, and a scavenger hunt to find the abducted counselors.
4th Session (LIT 1s) - Our 4th session fox and coyote groups were once again split into smaller cabin groups for some amazing events. The boys had a evening program’s filled with the Ultimate sport challenge where they played three different sports, including a water balloon fight and a new twist to dodgeball. The girls took a step into the past with a night filled with childhood games like jump rope, chalk, and coloring, night games like Ghost in the Graveyard and Kick the Can, Spa Night at the top of the Marina, and Crafts and small field games filled with creating their own nameplates and playing Red Light, Green Light, and Sharks and Minnows.
CIT Campfires (CITs and LIT 3s)
Our CITs and LIT 3 are some of our best song leaders in camp, so this year our CITs and LIT 3s decided to share their favorite songs through a CIT/LIT 3 campfire for our fox and coyote campers. The campfire was completely put together, promoted, and led by these campers. Here are some of the highlights from these four campfires.
1st Session - We started out the summer with a Disney theme in which Nemo was kidnapped by Jafar. Together Minnie Mouse, a Princess, and Hercules teamed up to rescue Nemo with the narration of Rafiki (from Lion King) throughout the campfire. The group also performed The Director’s Cut a favorite skit by many campers.
2nd Session - For our second session, we headed out to a desert island. The campfire followed the CITs/LIT 3s their journey and struggles of getting off of the island. This was completed with gross skits and one of the CITs emerging from under the ground mid-way through the campfire.
3rd Session - The third session CITs/LITs brought us an outer space/alien invasion theme. This included the crashing of a space ship in the back of the dining hall, some crazy alien catchers, and a few nice humans trying to help the aliens make their way back home. The aliens even shared some of their favorite home cooked meals with the humans…yum, yum, yum.
4th Session - Fourth session we saw an up rise in pirates for our CIT/LIT 3 campfire, with a pirate attack themed campfire. The pirates came in search of the treasure map that lead them to the buried treasure (the campers actual evening snack). The CITs brought out some of our old favorite camp songs, which we haven’t heard in a while, created new pirate verses to the camp song “the window,” and how can we forget our good friend Poppy, the crazy pirate.
Large Camp Events
Survival of the Foleyist - 1st Session (LIT 1 and 2)
The LITs 1 and 2 of 1st session planned a two hour all camp event, which challenged the Foley campers’ Foley spirit. The camp was divided into eight teams; four going to the Foley Fun Center and four going to the soccer field at a time. At the Barn, teams took on each other to play Human Foosball, Blind Volleyball, and a team challenge to get from one side of the barn to the other side using a variety of objects. Up on the soccer field, teams competed in a “Day in the Life of a camper…” relay. Each part of the relay portrayed an aspect of camp such as moving plates and silverware like a table waiter, writing “I love Camp Foley” in place of writing letters home, and kicking a soccer ball to act as their activity class. The LITs were energetic, and both campers and counselors enjoyed the morning.
4th of July Celebration - 2nd session (LIT 1 and 2)
This summer the second session LIT1 and 2 campers planned and led our 4th of July Festivities. Our morning began with a rising of the flag along with the singing of a couple patriotic songs. After lunch we started with a battle amongst cabins to dress one person in the most red items, one person in blue, another in white and a fourth in all camp Foley gear. We continued on with a crazy relay requiring every member of their team to complete a different task such as drinking a glass of water with a clothespin on their nose, feeding a partner marshmallows while blindfolded, and eating baby food. Our evening concluded with patriotic themed lip sync and of course fireworks! The day was a great success and a highlight for many of the campers.
Hogwarts is in Session - 3rd Session (LIT 2 and 3s)
During 3rd session, the LIT 2 and 3s brought camp into the world of wizardry with a Harry Potter themed morning. The day consisted of classes at Hogwarts, like transfiguration (spelling words with bodies as a team), dueling club (finger wresting), and defense of the arts (a variety of freeze tags). Teams also participated in Harry Potter version of Ships across the Ocean, choosing their wand, and creating a team cheer, which everyone really got into.
Fairy Tale Adventures - 4th Session (LIT 2 and 3s)
All our LIT 2 and 3s created activities and dressed up like all our favorite Mother Goose nursery rhymes. The day started out with a humorous introduction, where Cinderella, one of the three little pigs, and Hercules have all arrived at camp for different reasons. At the soccer field, campers played a game where they had to find Cinderella’s shoe and a variation of “Captain’s Coming,” but with a few fairy tale twists for “Step Mother’s Coming.” On Foley Green, teams were put to the test with a humpy dumpty relay with eggs on a spoon and little pig house building. Finally, in the barn teams competed in a newly created game involving creating houses and defending them against the big bad wolf!
