Gold & Silver Paddle

Started in 1968, the Gold and Silver Paddles (Voyageur Awards) are the highest honors that a camper may earn at Camp Foley.  The Gold Paddle is for those campers 13 and older while the Silver Paddle is for campers 12 and under.

To receive this award, campers must obtain a high level of achievement in a variety of activity areas including completing many of the top awards offered at Foley in some of the activity areas.  On top of the activity achievements, campers must also show a high level of leadership, dedication to the overall mission of Foley and be good role models through their actions and their words.

The Paddle Awards encompass all fields of camp life including sportsmanship, attitude and adjustment to camp life. It is Foley’s hope that a camper receiving this honor has achieved a rounded development in the various activities offered at camp and adjustment to group living.

The Birchbark Award is given to campers completing half of the requirements for the Gold and Silver Paddle, and who show good attitude, behavior, and peer relations.  We have given out lots of bot the Gold Birchbark Awards and Silver Birchbark Awards as campers work hard towards their Paddles, but fall a bit short.
