On Foley Camping Trips, where do we go and what do we do?

The Foley Tripping program is designed to get as many kids as possible out of camp for a 3-day experience.  We know that things are fun in camp, but many kids have some of the best memories from sleeping in a tent or paddling down a river.

If you are 11 years of age or older you will have the option to head out on a trip!

Foley campers have seen beavers, bald eagles, muskrats, loons, turtles, deer, raccoons and countless other animals on their trips.  They also make s'mores, sing songs and create long-lasting friendships.

Backpacking Trip (13+)

Pre-registration Required

If you are ready for the experience of a lifetime, come and participate in the Foley Backpacking Trip. If you are 13 years of age or older, physically in shape, and love to hike and sleep in the out of doors, then this is the trip for you!

On this trip, you get to hike nearly 20 miles in 3 days through the majestic landscape of the North Shore of Lake Superior. We'll be able to see waterfalls, rivers, gorges, and plenty of wildlife. This trip is led by 2 trained Foley Staff and may sometimes be a coed trip. You'll also have the opportunity to create fun memories with other Foley Campers (So, sign up with a friend)! LITs and CITs MAY participate!

If you decide to participate, you must bring Hiking Boots or shoes, a compact, lightweight sleeping bag AND rain gear (pants and coat - no ponchos).

Remember, we need to have 6 pre-registered campers in order to go, so if the trip is not filled by June 1st it may be cancelled! To register for the trip send in the Backpack Trip Form. No additional cost.

Canoeing Trips (11+)

No Pre-registration Required

The Foley canoe trips generally head out to either one of Minnesota's State Parks or to a scenic river area.  Past trips have included but are not limited to: the St. Louis River, the Crow Wing River, the Pine River and Kathio State Park.

Generally the first day includes a short paddle, setting up the campsite and then cooking your dinner over an open fire.  The second day of the trip is your big paddling day.  Either head down stream to another camp site or maneuver around the lake. On the third day you finish downstream to meet a Foley van for the ride back to camp. Some canoe trips may incorporate fishing (or even fly fishing) as well!

Biking Trips (11+)

No Pre-registration Required

Bike trips at Foley can be a great way to challenge yourself and learn a little about trail riding.  Trips vary from relatively simple excursions to Itasca State Park (the headwaters of the Mississippi River) to more challenging trips to Savannah State Park (including an amazing ride up and down the continental divide).  Foley also owns some land near Pine River that is about a 15 mile bike ride from camp and also does day trips on the Paul Bunyan Trail.  Each trip incorporates cooking over an open fire, biking and generally hiking and swimming as well.

Outpost Trips (11+)

No Pre-registration Required

Outpost trips are perfect for those campers that want the experience of sleeping in a tent and cooking over a fire, but are not quite ready for a long canoe ride or bike trip.  Examples of this trip include an Art in the Park trip where campers made different art projects while hanging out at a state park.  Also, a Survivor themed trip that focused on outdoor living skills. Depending on the location, hiking, swimming, cooking and enjoying nature are all a part of the trips! Perfect for your first ever trip!
