Camper Scholarship Program

"My son had a grand, fantastic, spectacular, wholesome, musical, beneficial, splendid, wondrous, healthy, divine, proud, magnificent, secure, perfect, natural, full, delightful, neighborly, valuable, happy, adventurous, and cool, cool time at Camp Foley. I believe this experience has enhanced his self-esteem and confidence. Thank you." From the Mother of a 1st year 8-year-old scholarship recipient at Camp Foley

The Search Institute, a nonprofit organization based in Minneapolis, MN that specializes in research on children and youth, conducted a nationwide survey of over 270,000 sixth to twelfth graders in 600 communities and 33 states. The survey, a 152-item inventory entitled Profiles of Student Life: Attitudes and Behaviors was conducted from September 1989 through March 1990. The purpose of the survey was simple – how to determine what is needed to help kids succeed.

The study results showed the largest difference between troubled teens and those teens leading healthy and positive lives was the presence of developmental assets. The Search Institute established 40 specific developmental assets or "building blocks for human development" that are necessary for young people to grow up as healthy, caring, and responsible adults. The more of these assets a child has, the more healthy and positive he or she is.

Camp Foley is able to provide children with a secure and safe setting where they can grow and develop at their own pace. It is a setting where they can have pure fun without the social pressures of home. We are also able to provide campers with healthy positive adult role models through our staff.

The Camp Foley Scholarship Program seeks to promote camp to kids who would not otherwise be able to attend camp. These children can benefit greatly through a camp experience. Here they experience the support, encouragement, and positive reinforcement of assured adult role models. A first year scholarship camper said this at the end of his experience, "Maybe I will be a counselor at Foley someday."
